                                            † Chaplains’ Corner †

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, anything worthy of praise, think about these things”. Philippians 4:8

What do we mostly think about? Today’s world is full of the opposites.  Seems like whatever is true is turned inside out into something false.  Where is the justice?  Our justice system has forgotten society’s real victims.  Where can we find purity?  It is certainly not in most of entertainment venues.  Paul is encouraging the Philippians to fill their minds with things that will inspire worship of God and service to others.  It certainly is commendable when we serve others.  When excellence becomes a priority we will enjoy the fruit. When we think on things that are pure we can be in this world yet not of it. Paul did not become entangled in the bitter political battles of his day.  The Philippians were to practice what Paul was saying and doing. As they made progress they would find that it is not simply the peace of God but the God of peace Himself who will be with them.

Should we become entangled in the bitterness and hatred in today’s politics? As Christian we are to be involved in making our country a better place to live and speak the truth but without hypocrisy or arrogance.  Jesus is to be our focus.  Didn’t Jesus say there will be a day when all nations will be under His authority?  With this confidence we know for sure that He is worthy of all our praise. Think on these things my friends and His peace will rein in our hearts.
